Dear
Members,
Let me express my deep sense of gratitude to all
esteemed members of IDA Kerala State for giving me
an opportunity to serve you as the president of IDA
Kerala State. As you all know that IDA Kerala State
is the most active and vibrant Branch among other
IDA State branches. My special thanks to IDA North
Malabar Branch, Dr.M.C.Mohan, my advisor always,
Dr.Premkumar, Dr.Alias Thomas and Dr.Viswanath who
were my presidents when I was the State Secretary,
Dr.Santhosh Sreedhar IPP and Dr.Shibu Rajagopal
Secretary IDA Kerala State. I humbly remember the
encouragement extended to me by all the past and
present leaders, colleagues and well-wishers of IDA
Kerala State.
For any individual or organization, challenges can
be met only by systematic and disciplined approach.
The beauty of any association lies in maintaining
the dignity and decorum.
I am a private practitioner of 24yrs standing and I
know well the challenges and aspirations of a
private practitioner. The limitations and time
constraints as well. In Kerala 99% of IDA members
that includes academicians are private
practitioners. So I would like to dedicate this year
for the betterment of private practice and welfare
of the members. My theme for the year is
PROTECT-PRACTICE & PROFESSION.
Dental practice reached here without many challenges
but it now stands at cross road passing through a
transition stage with the emergence of graduates
from 23 dental colleges in our vicinity and advent
of corporate in dental health care field. Adding
salt to the wound is the “not sure” attitude of
Govt. and DCI in preventing the coming up of new
Dental colleges. The neo-liberal economic policies
of govt. have put tremendous pressures on our
establishments, overheads and day to day life.
Now a chaos and apprehension prevail in Dental
Practice scenario and thus insecurity haunts the
practitioners. Devaluation of Dentists, Dental
Practice and Dental Profession in the near future is
the threat that we are facing now.
Our immediate aim should be to widen the practice
base and thereby bringing at least 15% more people
into regular dental consultation . To achieve the
same we need long term projects, Government
patronage and media support.
Few Projects in my mind are
a) Dental Health Survey to know the Dental Health
Status of the State which is essential in this new
age and will be benefited to all including
Government.
b) Branding of IDA Kerala State, members and their
practice. Extensive work shops have to be arranged
with the help of management consultants.
c) Dental tourism- All Dental surgeons should
acquire the status of a Global Dentist and each
clinic should be a Dental excellence centre. We
should exploit the tourism potential of Kerala State
which is globally known as “God’s own Country”.
d) Welfare- Fraternity contribution to be raised to
10 Lakhs immediately and 25 Lakhs by time bound
actions. This year will be observed as “year of
hope”.
e) IDA property in and around Cochin with the help
of NRI Dentists.
f) Other previous programmes and projects will be
continued as before with full vigor.
g) All activities under CDE,CDH, Website, Journal
etc will be synchronized and focus would be given on
targeted activities, that is practice and welfare.
I know ROME was not built in a Day. I am 45th yr’s
President from Dr.M.K.James to Dr.Santhosh Sreedhar
of IDA Kerala State and what I feel is we have to
set targets for the completion of projects on Dental
practice and welfare of our members at least by the
Golden jubilee Year, 2016-17.
I am an ardent admirer of Dr.A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM who
taught us to dream high, and I am fascinated by
BARACK OBAMA’s call for a change.
As An IDA member my dream is “Kerala - A Dental
Destination” . I believe in team work and I am sure
together we can make it a reality in the years to
come.
