Though the Indian Dental Association, at the centre
was formed as early as in 1946 it took more than two
decades for the formation of the Kerala State branch
of the IDA. The initiative for the formation of the
state branch was taken primarily by late Dr. Jacob
Zechariah. An ad-hoc committee was formed in 1967
with late Dr. Jacob Zechariah as the convener and
Dr. M.K.James and Dr. K. G. Nair as Members. The
primary objective of the this committee was to
organise the dental surgeons of the state and to
form the kerala state branch of IDA. The committee
held meetings at Eranakulam and Trivandrum. A
constitution was prepared for the Kerala State
Branch. Communications were send to all practicing
dental surgeons of this state. The formal
inauguration of the IDA, Kerala State Branch was
conducted on, Sunday the 2nd February, 1969.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Indira Hall,
Lisie Hospital, Ernakulam and was presided over by
Sri. K.A. Damodaran, Former Minister for Industries
and the state branch was formally inaugurated by the
Hon'ble Minister for Health Sri. B. Willington.
The General Body meeting was held on the same day
and the following office-bearers were elected
unanimously.
